Interviews are one of the most important aspects when applying for a new position in a company. Whether you’re new to the job market or a seasoned vet, these 8 tips are vital for a successful outcome.

Research the Company:

Understand the company’s background, values, and the projects they are working on. This will help you tailor your answers to match their needs. Check in with your recruiter on how formal or not the environment is, the dress code, format of the interview and who will be attending the interview

Understand the Role:

Have a clear understanding of the job description and the skills required. Be prepared to discuss how your skills and experience align with the role.

Technical Knowledge:

Brush up on your technical skills related to the job. Be prepared to discuss specific technologies, tools, and methodologies relevant to the role.

Behavioural Questions:

Be ready to answer behavioural questions that assess your soft skills, such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Do this by thinking of specific projects and achievements and what your role was, outline the scenario, talk through the tasks you undertook, the action you took and the result? This is the Scenario Tasks Action Results acronym (STAR).

Salary Expectations:

Discuss with your recruiter how to answer the question about your salary expectations. You may wish to manage this yourself, or have your recruiter negotiate on your behalf.

Practice:

Consider doing mock interviews to practice your responses and get feedback. Ask your recruiter to help.

Questions for the Interviewer:

Prepare questions to ask the interviewer about the company, team, and role to demonstrate your interest and engagement.

Feedback:

It is important to give your recruiter feedback promptly.

Remember, each interview is unique, so it’s essential to be adaptable and present yourself authentically.
